Gelee is a project initiated by the University of Trento in the context of the Liquid Publication project, which works on the development of models and a system to overcome the rigid and complex nature of traditional workflow management systems. Thus, the project takes ideas of artifact-centric workflows and flexible workflows to propose a Universal Resource Lifecycle Management system (URLM).

The idea behind the URLM is to manage the lifecycle of arbitrary artifacts, and hence, the Scientific Knowledge Object (SKO). Some of the key features of approach, and therefore, of the system are:

  • Support for arbitrary lifecycles (e.g., for evaluation, review, elaboration)
  • Templates from which derive specific cases
  • Flexibility in the lifecycle definition and execution
  • Monitoring. Manage executions, including compliance, time and delays
  • Simplicity. targets average researcher
  • Easy integration through Widgets and APIs
